Born in Singapore, Nhawfal Juma’at is a multidisciplinary conceptual artist whose practice moves across sound, drawing, text, installation, and poetic inquiry. His work emerges from an ongoing exploration of the plurality of Being — not as a problem to resolve, but as a condition to be held. Through silence, voice, light, and restrained material gestures, he investigates how presence, absence, memory, and care resonate across generations.
Rooted in phenomenology, Islamic metaphysics, and post-structural thought, Nhawfal’s research began as an inquiry into fragmentation, multiplicity, and the instability of the self. Over time, this inquiry evolved into a quieter practice concerned less with resolving plurality than with sustaining it ethically. The human voice, breath, and minimal sonic environments have recently become central to his work, functioning as thresholds between concealment and unconcealment, intimacy and distance.
A key framework within his research is the Tri-Axial Method, mapping relational structures between the witnessing self, ethical responsibility, and artistic mediation. Alongside this, his exploration of the “Juncture of Silence” positions silence not as emptiness, but as a dense space where intention and becoming dwell before articulation. His recent works shift away from monumentality toward near-nothing installations — experiential fields where sound and light invite listeners into states of reflection, inheritance, and care.
Nhawfal’s practice proposes a poetic metaphysics of Being: one that acknowledges rupture and fatigue, yet turns toward presence, relationality, and the ethical act of holding without collapse. Across media, his works cultivate restraint as a form of responsibility, allowing viewers to encounter art not as spectacle, but as resonance.
